The Tillamook, Bay City & Garibaldi is a model switching district serving a fictional town on the Oregon coast, circa 1980-2019. The industries are inspired by Western Oregon industries from Jay’s original home town area along the Oregon coast.
This railroad operates using switch lists for car control. The layout owner serves as Trainmaster as there is no real mainline modeled so no need for a true dispatcher. An operating crew of four to six (two-man crews) will have plenty to do as crews serve the many large industries and industrial park (the industrial park accesses its work via barge service). Another crew serves as the local switch crew. And finally, the road/yard crew shuttles train onto the layout, handles the building of the locals and assembles the outbound trains.
The layout uses Digitrax tethered controls. The HO-scale railroad occupies a spare room equivalent to a two-car garage. Jay reports that his scenery is 100% complete, although he periodically likes to rip some scenes up and rebuild them with different industries!
